When it is cheaper to have a rest in Turkey

The most expensive time is summer and the New Year. This is the peak season, a lot of people come and the prices reach the ceiling.

The secret #1: it’s cheaper to go on holiday to Turkey in autumn, winter, spring and June. Velvet season at the resorts lasts from September until the end of October – and the rest is nice, and the prices are lower.

Secret #2. During the low season you can luxuriate and take a tour to the luxury “five star” twice cheaper than in summer.

Secret #3. On the other hand, in the summer you can get very cheap last minute tours. In June-July we flew for 7 nights in Kemer for 33600 rubles for two. And it’s not the minimum price, we just chose a better hotel. But the cheapest tours in Turkey, you can still buy only in the offseason. In winter there are not many good offers from tour operators, because there are few flights, and some hotels are closed.

Which month is cheaper to fly to Turkey:

  • When is the best time to rest in Turkey?
  • First time in Turkey: What do you need to know?

Cheap vacations in Turkey

We went to rest by the sea in Turkey in June. It’s not a bad time to vacation: you can buy an inexpensive tour, and the water is already warm.

The number of stars in the hotel

In Turkey, there are a lot of hotels of different stars and levels. The cost of rest in them varies not so much. Look at the prices of tours for two people for a week in the summer season:

  • 2/3 stars – from 40,000 rubles
  • 4 stars – from 45 000 rubles
  • 5 stars – from 55 000 rubles.

Of course there are exceptions when the price is influenced by last minute tours or early bird deals, but in general the ratio is always about this.

You don’t have to be an Einstein to understand that a five for 55 thousand, a five for 100 thousand and a five for 200 thousand rubles are completely different things. The first hotel will be closer to a three than to its counterpart for 100 thousand. Keep this in mind when buying a trip to Turkey. Hotel stars are often just a marketing ploy, and you should not dwell on them too much. It often happens that three for 60 thousand is better than five for the same price. Do not chase only the stars, but carefully read the hotel reviews, look at its location, the size of the rooms, freshness of repairs, quality of services and entertainment.

Look for new hotels in Turkey.

It’s very easy to choose a good hotel by description and reviews on Travelate and Level.Travel – that’s why we love them. When searching for a tour check the box “Excellent” in the “Rating by Reviews” in the filters to screen out all the bad hotels, like in the picture below.

How to buy the cheapest tours

Secret #4. The cheapest tours in Turkey are the burning ones. Catch them 2-7 days before departure. We bought our last minute trip to Kemer 2 days before departure: the tour cost 33600 rubles for two, there were also options and for 21500 rubles, but the hotels in the cheapest tours we did not like – a lot of bad reviews. Find out how much a tour to Turkey costs and what affects the price of the tour in this post.

Secret #5. Always pay attention to tourist reviews, choose a hotel with a rating of at least 4 out of 5 or 8 out of 10. You do not want to fight with the insolent staff, to fight off cockroaches, to fall asleep under the clatter of half-dead air conditioning or to be wiped with a towel for two weeks – anything can happen in cheap Turkish hotels! To avoid trash, take tours in new hotels in Turkey.

Secret #6. Buy tours online, do not let managers from travel agencies to push you crap or split you up for a more expensive tour – they love it. The last time I bought a tour in a travel agency back in 2012, since then only online. Reliable services where you can buy from any tour operator: Travelate and Level.Travel – I use them myself.

How to eat cheaply

Secret #19. Always try to eat at local establishments – the food there is the most delicious and inexpensive. Turks love to eat well, so feel free to focus on the places they choose themselves. Avoid touristy streets and places where people insistently call you in Russian or English. In the right places only Turkish is spoken.

Secret #20. Never go to places from the list of recommendations guidebook Lonely Planet – it will be crowded with tourists and huge prices. Do not trust this book.

Secret #21. The cheapest, most atmospheric and delicious places to eat in Istanbul are around the Egyptian and Grand Bazaar. Learn more about food prices in Istanbul.

Secret #22. Lokanta is a Turkish canteen, it has the lowest prices and a huge selection of dishes, including national dishes. You must visit it!

Secret #23. Where to try Turkish sweets? We always buy from small pastry shops and eateries. The giants like Mado and Koska were the ones you should avoid because they are overpriced.

Secret #24. It is not easy to have a good breakfast in Turkey in the morning – Turks usually make do with tea, sweets and sandwiches. If you want something more nourishing, take lentil soup and scrambled eggs, they are served with a lot of bread. If you see the classic Turkish breakfast kahvalti on the menu, be sure to order it!

Our average bill for lunch in Istanbul is 400-500 rubles, in Kemer – 600-700 rubles for two.

Our total spending for food in cafes, sweets, groceries, fruits, juices in Istanbul for 10 days – 13000 rubles for two people, in Kemer for 6 days – 11000 rubles.

Prices in Kemer restaurants

Turkish breakfast: lepeshka, tahin, vegetables, olives, homemade butter, several kinds of jams and cheeses. Tasty extraordinary!

Beach Holiday

Turkish beaches are one of the reasons why tourists come here so actively. This is not surprising, because in addition to the diversity in the landscape, you get a bonus quality service, good infrastructure and perfect cleanliness, which is so lacking in domestic resorts. Aggregator tours Onlinetours can easily find for you a suitable holiday.

Those who want to rest on a sandy beach, you need to go to Belek or Side. If a picturesque bay – your limit of dreams, then the choice in favor of Antalya or Kemer will be the best solution. Are you comfortable with pebbles? Then you can safely take tickets to Bodrum.

In general, you can sunbathe and swim to your heart’s content even in Istanbul. The only difference is that this resort is more focused on business travelers, and in the city there are fewer hotel complexes with a set of services for vacationers.

Excursions

Secret #25. Never buy excursions from a tour operator – they are the most expensive and creepy. At a meeting after the arrival of your hotel guides will be hanging your ears, praising their excursions and scare that other firms will cheat you, ditch, kill you, and so on. Immediately tell them a firm “no”.

Secret #26. We do not take tours, because we do not like this format, all these guides and walking a duck formation at the sights. All the interesting places we visit on our own – it’s more convenient and cheaper. You can get to almost any point of interest by public transport or on foot, and all the information is easy to get from the Internet, stands or brochures. Check out our guide for independent tourists to the most beautiful places around Kemer, Cirali and Antalya.

Secret #27. In Istanbul, buy a Museum Pass Istanbul card – with it you’ll visit all the main attractions of the city at half the price. To save on transportation, buy Istanbulkart. Find out what’s worth seeing in Istanbul.

Secret #28. Rent a car in Turkey – so you can easily visit any interesting places and drive along the scenic coastline. A car for a day at local offices costs from $40, but you can find cheaper on the Internet. During low season prices go down a bit. No matter how you look at it, it will be cheaper than excursions from a tour operator (especially if you are 2-5 people) and certainly much more enjoyable! We rented a scooter for $20, but it was lame, and the choice of motorized vehicles in Turkey is none at all. So it’s better to take a car. In the future we want to travel all of Turkey by car.

Faselis

The ancient city of Fazelis. Instead of a tour, we came here on our own by city bus.

Rent in Turkey

I rented a moped in Turkey, but it’s not very convenient. Next time I plan to ride by car.

Money

Secret #29. In many Turkish ATMs you can withdraw money without a fee: for example, I usually withdraw at Deniz Bank or Halkbank. I pay in stores and many cafes with a card – it is accepted almost everywhere. It is much less profitable and troublesome to change currency in exchange offices. If I go abroad I always withdraw money with Tinkoff Black card as this bank takes no commission and the card can be multi-currency in a minute allowing to buy currency in advance and not to depend on exchange rate fluctuations. And new customers who have signed up for the card are now given 1,000 ₽ to their account as a gift, according to the promo.

Secret #30. Sign up for the bargain All Airlines credit card to get 10% back on your hotel and car rental expenses, and get good vacation and travel health insurance for free.

Excursion Tours

Special attention should be paid to trips with an emphasis on excursions. In this case, usually book a hotel near major cities or specific attractions. On the official website Onlinetours you can find offers of operators and hotels, which allow you to combine the pleasant with the useful, resort holiday and acquaintance with the history of Turkey, but this is not always the case. If you do not want to waste hours of precious vacation time on long trips, the remoteness of the hotel from the locations of interest is extremely important.

Secret #31. How much cheaper to call from Turkey to Russia? Before you travel, buy a tariff with favorable roaming. Tariffs are constantly changing, so I will not list them, find out the actual conditions from the operators.

Secret #32. I myself from abroad usually do not call, for communication I have enough Internet. The most favorable conditions, it seems to me, have Tele2 at “Premium” tariff – for 1300-1500 rubles I get a big package of the Internet, which I always have enough.

What can you buy cheaper in Turkey?

Secret #33. In Turkey, especially in Istanbul, you can buy anything. Clothing of any quality and price level, furniture, antiques, art, sweets, spices, souvenirs and gifts – in general everything is real! No wonder: Turkey is the East, and the East is the Bazaar. So God forbid to go there for shopping. At the same time in Turkey, almost everything will be cheaper than in Russia. If you are a fan of shopping, then get ready to go crazy. We in Turkey bought some clothes, fabrics, sweets, chess, vinyl, and even found a hundred-year-old mask from Africa at the Istanbul junkers. See what to bring from Turkey.

Turkey: important information for Russian citizens planning to stay in the country*

Turkey has long been familiar to domestic tourists a resort that always hospitably welcomes our countrymen as if they were close friends. However, do not think that stays in Turkey – nothing more than a lazy holiday in the familiar format of all inclusive: no, it is an opportunity to escape from the stone jungles of Moscow to the warm shores of the Mediterranean Sea. However, not only the famous beaches of the four seas beckon travelers – here they come for the culture and history of Istanbul, with its magnificent Blue Mosque and the Topkapi Palace, for a recovery in the thermal springs of Yalova, for the best shopping in the world and even for mountain skiing. Yes, this country has something to surprise you.

Cheap vacations in Turkey

We went to rest by the sea in Turkey in June. It’s not a bad time to vacation: you can buy an inexpensive tour, and the water is already warm.

The town of Kash, advertised by Instagram bloggers, is really good. It’s a slice of Europe in Turkey: identical white houses, decorated with flowers, descend picturesquely down the hill to the sea. Lots of trendy cafes, beautiful hotels with views, and an ancient Lycian tomb stands proudly in the center of the resort. One drawback – to some hotels in the heat to climb oh how not easy. Many people go to Kas for the best beach in Turkey – Kaputas. The beach is really good! Near Kas there is such a lovely resort Kalkan.

In Kas we stayed at the Ates guesthouse, which attracted us with amazing breakfasts and a great view from the terrace. It is suitable for young undemanding tourists, for the rest I advise to choose a more comfortable hotel.

Kusadasi

This resort surprised me with its gigantic size – I thought it was small and chambery, like Icmeler or Kas. It left a pleasant impression: a good promenade, there is a fortress on the island, a caravanserai, lots of cafes, a bunch of hotels of different levels, entertainment, cool national park Dilek with wild boars, Zeus Cave, but most importantly – a convenient location. There are antique cities Ephesus, Selcuk, Miletus, Didim and Izmir nearby.

You can swim better in Dilek or Ladies Beach. We stayed at Demir Suit Hotel 3*, but it is high up. As the relief of the resort is hilly, I advise to live below, because it is hard to go up on foot.

Bodrum

Bodrum is also our favorite, one of the best resorts in Turkey. Once you’ve seen this photogenic Greek-style town with neat white houses, you won’t forget it. The resort is bohemian: artistic young people from Istanbul and Ankara sing songs with a guitar, write graffiti on the walls, hang out in bars and just be inspired by the beautiful scenery.

In Bodrum we visited the fortress of St. Peter, went up to the old windmills, admired the views and went to the stunningly beautiful wild beaches in Bitez. We lived in the city hotel Costa Sariyaz Hotel 3*, but for a comfortable stay by the sea it is better to choose a country beach hotel.

Fethiye

When they say “Fethiye”, they often mean Oludeniz and its excellent beaches. But Fethiye is a separate resort with its own beach, and it is not impressive: gray sand, stones and corals, muddy water. I would not swim, it is better to go to other beaches, of which there are plenty. However, the resort is nice, quiet and pleasant for a rest. There is a center with a bazaar, cafes and a beautiful marina, Lycian tombs in the rock, the ruins of a fortress, a museum and a long promenade!

In Fethiye it is convenient to live not in a hotel, but to rent a house – we did so. From the resort we went by car to Oludeniz and the Valley of Butterflies, the ghost town Kayaköy, the ancient cities of Xanf and Tlos, to the gorge Saklikent.

Oludeniz

They call it the Maldives in Turkey! Here and Oludeniz was awarded this title, although it does not look like an exotic island. A wide and long sandy beach, high mountains, coniferous air, blue water – actually a typical landscape for this part of Turkey, and we saw a wild beaches of Bodrum and the water was a bit bluer.

The place is good: peaceful, beautiful and interesting. We came here for a day from Fethiye by car to swim in the famous Blue Lagoon, look at the Valley of Butterflies from above and have a short walk along the Lycian Trail. The village itself is unremarkable – hotels of different levels, cafes, stores. It is divided into upper and lower levels. I think it’s nicer to live at the bottom, by the beach.

The marina, the bars and cafes, the ringing green mountains – Marmaris is a place for romantics. And photogenic Old Town a la Greece or Spain completely won me over. A completely different Turkey! All beaches are pebble and sandy-pebbly, with a smooth entrance, so you can go with children. The best beach is in Ichmelere.

We went up to the fortress, walked the streets of the Old Town and the waterfront, gazed at the luxury yachts, sailed on an excursion to Dalyan. Swim to Rhodes and Cleopatra Island, go to Icmeler and Turunç.

Great hotels AI

I am very picky about hotels, so for our Turkish vacations I always choose them thoughtfully and long. Here are proven hotels in Turkey, where we vacationed on our own with the AI system. In summer, tours to these hotels cost 100-200 thousand rubles for two people, in the off-season – twice cheaper.

Aska Lara Resort & Spa 5* in Antalya, Lara district. It has its own sandy beach, water park, spa, two tennis courts and a huge area with pools and entertainment for children. It is designed primarily for foreigners, but Russian-speaking tourists during the pandemic also began to go there. I have the most pleasant memories of the hotel.

Sunprime C-Lounge 5* in Alanya. This is a stylish, cool, intelligent hotel near the center. Only for adults. They pamper you with seafood and play live music in the lounge. Holiday both foreigners and ours.

Bosphorus Sorgun 5* in Side. A large and stylish hotel aimed at the Russian speaking public. Suitable for both young people and vacationers with children. Read our review of this hotel.

Kleopatra Atlas 4* in Alanya. The hotel is quite modest, without frills in design, but with a chic location – right next to the Damlatas Cave and Cleopatra Beach.
