Vaccinations before traveling to Thailand: necessary or not

Thailand will simplify rules for Russian travelers

Tourists who have vaccination certificate or a negative result of PCR-test will be exempt from quarantine and tests on arrival.

Thailand now has special programs for entry into the country – Test&Go, Sandbox and Alternative Quarantine. Each has its own list of provinces and rules under which you can stay in Thailand. We wrote about them in another article. In May, these programs will be abolished and the rules will be the same for all. I’ll tell you more about what documents are needed to enter Thailand.

Do I need a visa to Thailand?

Whether a visa is needed depends on the duration of stay in the country. The rules don’t change in this regard.

If the trip will last up to 30 days, you won’t need a visa to Thailand. At the airport they just put a stamp in your passport.

If the trip will last from 30 to 90 days, you must obtain a single entry visa TR in advance. It is issued for 60 days, and is prolonged for another 30 days in Thailand.

If the trip to Thailand will last more than 90 days, you must obtain a tourist visa STV for 90 days. In Thailand it can be extended twice for the same period. That is a total of 270 days allowed on such a visa.

The visa fee for the TR is $ 40 – which is 4500 R at the rate of the Thai Embassy on April 1. For STV – $ 80, that is 9000 R . The service fee is 1800 R.

The Thai Embassy in Moscow has not yet updated the requirements for the list of documents for a visa. This may happen soon.

What documents will be needed for all Russians to enter Thailand from May 1

Thailand Pass. This is a certificate for entry into the country, which is received now. From May 1 its form will change, because you do not have to choose a program for entry.

Thailand in Spring - 2022. Weather in March, April and May

The certificate is drawn up on the website before the trip. The form includes personal and passport information, the reason for entry, flight number, information about the children with whom you plan to travel, and other information.

You will also need to upload a passport photo, health insurance and one of the documents – a certificate of vaccination, the result of PCR test or proof of payment for the quarantine hotel. About the requirements for certificates I will tell further.

After you have been issued the Thailand Pass you will be sent a QR-code, which you will have to show at the entrance to the country.

What rules will apply to vaccinated travelers

Thailand will accept travelers vaccinated with Sputnik V, CoronaVac, Vaxzevria and Covishield (Astrazeneca), Comirnaty (Pfizer), Spikevax (Moderna), Covilo, Janssen (Johnson & Johnson), Covaxin, Covovax and Medigen. The Russian Sputnik Light vaccine will not work.

Vaccination will be required at least 14 days before travel. According to the Russian consulate in Phuket, vaccination certificates for the two components of the drug “Sputnik V” are recognized indefinitely.

Travelers with a certificate of coronavirus who have received at least one component of the drug will be considered fully vaccinated.

Vaccination certificates will need to be uploaded on the Thailand Pass form. After entering the country, vaccinated tourists will be able to travel anywhere. They will not need to undergo tests or book special hotels.

What rules will apply to unvaccinated travelers

Unvaccinated travelers will have to take a PCR test within 72 hours before entering Thailand and upload the result to the Thailand Pass form. After entering Thailand, they will be free to travel anywhere.

They do not have to undergo the test before departure. But then they would have to undergo a five-day quarantine upon arrival and be tested at the end of it in Thailand. In this case, you will have to upload proof of payment for the quarantine kit on the form in advance. It includes:

    For a five-day stay.
  1. Transfer from the airport to the hotel by special transport.
  2. PCR test on the fifth day of quarantine.
Money in Thailand. Withdrawal in ATMs and money exchange. What to know

What rules of entry to Thailand will be introduced for children

Children under the age of 12 will be allowed to enter unaccompanied if they have a certificate of full vaccination with a Thailand-approved product. Vaccinations will be required, as for adults, at least 14 days before travel. If a child has had coronavirus and received one component of the vaccine, he or she is also considered fully vaccinated.

If a minor does not have a certificate, he will be allowed into Thailand only if accompanied by a parent.

Children aged 12-17 will also be allowed to come to Thailand without an adult. They will need a certificate of vaccination with at least one component of a coronavirus drug. Without it, the trip may be possible only with parents.

Are there direct flights from Russia to Thailand

Russia has resumed air links with Thailand, but I could not find direct flights for May. Etihad Airways, Qatar Airways and Emirates fly with connections from Moscow to Bangkok.

The Etihad Airways roundtrip tickets for May 16-29 cost 48,939 P per passenger with luggage. And Qatar Airways tickets for May 10-20 cost 48,180 P per passenger with luggage.

Is vaccination necessary?

We are often asked if vaccinations are necessary in Thailand. Our answer is no. A kovid vaccination is desirable, but not strictly required. You can present at the border a negative PCR, made in compliance with all rules. But it’s worth noting that the rules for entering Thailand for vaccinated people will seem quite easy. You only need to print a certificate from the website Gosuslugi or download it to your smartphone.

With what vaccination is allowed in Thailand?

Thailand only recognizes Russian vaccines Sputnik V. Thus, you can not go on vacation in Thailand with a vaccine Sputnik Light, or, for example, Kovivac. In addition, certificates of those vaccinated with other vaccines are accepted: Pfizer BioNTech, Astra Zeneca Oxford, Johnson&Johnson, Moderna. For Russian citizens, the best option is to travel to Thailand with the Sputnik V vaccine administered at two appointments in due time. A certificate printed from the Gosuslugi website in English will not raise any questions.

Do I need a PCR test in Thailand?

If you are not vaccinated with Sputnik V and have not taken a rapid test at a specialized facility, you must present a negative PCR test result at the border. The document must be in English, bear the “live” seal of a certified laboratory and contain a personal QR code. Asking if PCR is needed in Thailand, do not forget that this analysis has a limited validity period. No more than 72 hours should pass from the time the biomaterial is submitted.

Do children need PCR in Thailand?

It depends on the age of the child. Currently, children need a PCR in Thailand if they are at least 12 years old. Children under the age of 12 may not take it.

We hope we have answered all your questions. Now you know whether you can go to Thailand with the Sputnik vaccination, and what alternative way to cross the border without problems exists.
