Russians may stay in the country without visa for up to 30 days. Before departure they will have to take a PCR test, and upon arrival in the country – another test. Unvaccinated travelers will be sent to five-day quarantine.
The Malaysian Ministry of Health has published the rules of entry. I will tell you more about it.
The main news – in our Telegram
What documents you need to enter Malaysia
PCR test result. Only children up to and including 6 years old are exempt from the tests. Other travelers must take a PCR test within 48 hours before flying to Malaysia.
Travelers who have had coronavirus within the last 60 days must take a coronavirus antigen test instead of a PCR test.
Coronavirus insurance is taken out for the duration of stay in Malaysia with a minimum coverage of $20,000 (P1,913,200 ).
MySejahtera application. Travelers must register in advance and fill out the Traveller form on the local MySejahtera app. It is used to track contacts during a pandemic. Five days before traveling to Malaysia, vaccination information is uploaded to the app to avoid being quarantined. The list of acceptable vaccines includes Sputnik V, Sputnik Lite, Sinovac, Sinopharm, Comirnaty (Pfizer), Spikevax (Moderna), AstraZeneca (Covishield and Vaxzevria), Covaxin, Novavax, CanSino, Janssen (Johnson & Johnson).
What awaits travelers on arrival
Test on arrival. All travelers over the age of 6, regardless of vaccination, must have an antigen test within 24 hours of arrival. This can be done at any medical facility and at the airport. You have to pay for the tests yourself. The cost is not specified.
Quarantine. Travelers under 17 years and vaccinated tourists do not need to undergo quarantine. All others on arrival must spend five days in isolation. The rules of entry only state that quarantine takes place at the place of residence – probably at the hotel. Then take a PCR test on the fourth day or an antigen test on the fifth. If the result is negative, isolation stops.
Travelers with medical contraindications to vaccination must present proof of exemption from vaccination. The decision to be exempt from quarantine will be made on a case-by-case basis.
What restrictions are in place in Malaysia
As of April 1, the Malaysian government loosened coronavirus restrictions. For example, catering establishments were allowed to operate after midnight.
Some measures are still in place. Everyone is still required to wear masks in public places and keep their distance. And to register visitors in public transport, stores, offices, factories, construction sites, commercial premises use the MySejahtera app.
How to get to Malaysia
There are no direct connections between Russia and Malaysia. But there are several routes with convenient connections, such as Istanbul, Abu Dhabi, Doha or Dubai.
Turkish Airlines offers flights from 59,001 P one-way. Etihad Airways has tickets for 57,088 P one-way and Qatar Airways has tickets for 56,495 P. Emirates only from 83,254 P .
In theory, you could fly further from Kuala Lumpur – all over Southeast Asia. Before the pandemic, it was a major hub for travelers from all over the world. Now not all countries accept travelers. For example, Cambodia lets in travelers vaccinated with Russian medicines without quarantine, and the Philippines accepts travelers only if they are vaccinated with medicines approved by the WHO or the country’s authorities. You will not be allowed into the Philippines with Russian certificates.
Inside Malaysia, you can also have a good holiday. For example, you can visit the islands of Penang and Langkawi, the cat city of Kuching, as well as Kota Kinabalu, where orangutans live.
Convenient flight on April 9 for 62,244 P . It takes 1 hour and 40 minutes to change in Istanbul Source: aviasales.ru

Malaysia: visa for Russians in 2022
For our citizens, Malaysia is a country with partial free entry. Visa to Malaysia for Russians in 2022, as before, is not necessary if there are no plans to stay longer than thirty days. Restrictions on the purpose of travel are also not imposed, as some types of Malaysian visas can be obtained on the basis of a stamp of entry into the country. This is good, but there is a nuance – these documents are not issued by the Malaysian Embassy in Russia, they must be obtained on site.
Russians can travel in Malaysia for a month without obtaining a visa.
Cases in which a visa is necessary
If a citizen of Russia intends to stay in the country for less than thirty days, then he will not need a visa. He can enter the state without any problems having the minimum set of documents.
And do you need visa to Malaysia, if you are planning to stay in the country for a long time, for example, to work, study or carry out any other activity? Yes, you will need a visa. You may apply for it both at the Embassy of Malaysia in Russia and in Malaysia by contacting the authorized agencies.
Tourist long term visas are issued at the Russian representation of Malaysia. Work and study visa can be issued only if you are already in Malaysia.
Visa-free entry is a special regime when a foreigner crosses the border of a foreign country without permission; your passport is stamped with a simple date. According to a number of agreements between Russia and Malaysia Russians are allowed to enter and stay in the country without visas for the period of up to 30 days. The corresponding visa to Malaysia is issued and requested in case of exceeding this allowed term.
Border crossing stamp in Malaysia
Documents required for visa-free entry:
- Valid passport, its remaining validity must be at least six months;
- Correctly filled in migration card;
- Air ticket (any other ticket is possible) back to the Russian Federation or another country;
- Cash amount of $500, or bank statement in English.
It should be noted that the last two points are prescribed in the visa law, but in reality are a formality, as officers at customs very rarely check for air tickets or tickets for other transport of arriving Russians.
During the border crossing procedure, it is necessary to surrender your fingerprints. This norm was introduced by Malaysian authorities in order to introduce at least minimal control over the flow of foreigners coming to the country.
Filling out a migration card
A migration card is a not very large paper form in which a new arrival has to enter some information about himself/herself. As a rule, it is handed out still on the plane, so there is an opportunity to fill it out in advance.
Migration Card Malaysia differs from similar cards in other visa-free states a more extensive list of questions that require an answer. In addition to standard items that require you to enter your personal data, passport information, information on the purpose of visit, place of residence, you must also tick the box in the questionnaire card.
A sample of filling in the migration card to Malaysia
Sections of the migration card to fill out:
- Full name, other personal data;
- Passport information;
- Flight number;
- Purpose of visit;
- Hotel address in Malaysia;
- Where you arrived from;
- Whether you have entered Malaysia before with a different passport and surname, if so, indicate which surname;
- Any health problems;
- Have you ever visited an African country or a country in the Americas in the last month or in the last six days?
It is good if the last two points are answered negatively, so that there are no additional questions or problems with permission to cross the border. You do not need to provide a hotel address; any valid Malaysian address will suffice.
You should remember that Malaysia is a country where a large part of the population practices Islam. Although there are no strict requirements for uniforms, it is better to adhere to the following rules when crossing the border:
- Look neat;
- Avoid clothing that is too revealing.
If you have to go to the immigration office, embassy or other official place, it is better not to wear clothes with short sleeves and exposing the legs.
Malaysian customs regulations
There are certain restrictions which are imposed by Malaysian Customs on imported/exported items.
- Items and materials endangering human health and life;
- Any goods of Israel;
- Money of Israel;

- One liter of alcohol and 200 cigarettes;

Visa Waiver Extension.
After the thirty-day period, you can also do without a visa to Malaysia. A so-called extension of stay for another thirty days is available for an additional fee. This is not always possible, as the authorities may have questions about the purpose and actual need for such a period of stay in their state.
If there is still a need to extend the entry stamp, you should come to the immigration office and answer the questions of visa officers, the conversation will be conducted in English. It is necessary to emphasize your tourist intentions and say that there was not enough time to look at everything you wanted, and that is why an extension is requested. If the employees are satisfied with what they hear, the document will be extended. It is hardly possible to do it a second time.
For exceeding the period of stay faces a fine, and in some cases even forced deportation. A fine is assessed for each day of illegal stay.
For the purposes of transit, a visa to Kuala Lumpur is not required for Russians. All visa-free rules and regulations apply to transit. You only need to have a passport and a completed migration card to make the transfer.
For those travelers who for some reason can not or do not want to go to the immigration office to extend the visa stamp or they have already been there once, there is one way to stay in the country for a long time. This exit scheme is called a visa-rant. It is, of course, not a real visa to Malaysia, but just a set of certain steps to legalize your further stay in the country.
The scheme works like this: the traveler leaves for the neighboring country closer to the date when the visa-free stamp starts to expire, and then comes back to Malaysia and again gets 30 days of visa-free stay.
This way of departure is not quite legal, because foreigners working illegally in Malaysia without a visa can do so. That is why you should stay in the other country at least several days to avoid suspicion of the border guards, thus you can create the semblance of traveling to several Asian countries.
If you are planning to use visa-aran, you should know that you can get a visa-free stamp thirty days only three times, the first time upon arrival from Russia.
Travel with children
The Kingdom of Malaysia does not impose special restrictions on travelers with children. You simply need to have their birth certificate to be able to take your child on a trip.
There are restrictions on the part of the Russian Federation, the child is required to have a special permit to leave Russia in the following situations:
- If traveling with only one parent – permission must be obtained from the second;
- If traveling with a third party – permission must be signed by both parents.
Types of visas
There are situations when visa to Malaysia for Russians is still required and visa-free stamp is not enough. These cases are when you need a long tourist visa for more than two months, work visa and student visa.
Long-term tourist visa is issued before the trip in Russia, and work and student visa in Malaysia itself.
