Seasons and weather in Vietnam by month, when best to go
Vietnam is considered a warm southern country, and many people mistakenly believe that when and to whichever resort you go to Vietnam, you will be greeted everywhere with beautiful warm weather. However, like most countries in the region, Vietnam is subject to two seasons: the dry season and the rainy season. And given the large length of the country from north to south, these seasons occur at the same time in different parts of the country.
To help you choose the right place for your vacation, we have prepared an interactive map with the weather in Vietnam by month (switch months at the bottom of the map). If the map does not work for some reason you can read the text description below.
Table of seasons in Vietnam by month:

Seasons in Vietnam by month:
In January in Vietnam, it is best to vacation in the southern resorts (Mui Ne, Ho Chi Minh City, Phu Quoc Island, Vung Tau, Con Dao Island), so dry and hot weather.
In the center, Nha Trang, Da Nang and Hoi An, the weather is slightly spoiled by the echoes of the ending rainy season, but in general the time for a beach holiday is not bad, especially in the second half of the month.
Not comfortable, perhaps, only in the north (Hanoi, Sapa, Halong), where in the winter months is too cold, the temperature drops to 10 degrees, and in the mountain areas below zero. And if for Hanoi it does not matter, you just need to stock up on warm clothes, but in Halong Bay tours of the bay, accompanied by a piercing cold wind does not look unpleasant. It even snows in the mountainous areas of Sapa. The situation in the north is saved only by the almost complete absence of precipitation.
The rainy season ends at all resorts and the weather is excellent. It is not comfortable only in the north, where the weather is still cold, and the beach vacation is out of the question.
One of the best months to vacation anywhere in Vietnam. Precipitation is minimal throughout the country, in the south and in the center is not too hot. In the north it is already warm enough to walk around during the day without warm clothes, only at night it gets chilly.
Wherever you go on vacation in Vietnam in April, you’ll find warm weather with minimal precipitation. It’s just the perfect month to travel all over the country.
In May, the weather is good at all resorts, and you can safely go anywhere. In some regions in May, the rainy season starts (Dalat, Hanoi, Con Dao Island), but the rains are rare and beach holidays do not interfere much.
The best places to stay in June are resorts in central Vietnam (Nha Trang Hoi An, Da Nang, Hue). In the south and north the weather goes to extremes, the rainy season and relentless heat begins, in Halong Bay storms are possible. If you can’t stand high temperatures, it’s better to avoid big cities (Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City).
It gets even hotter, and the rainy season in the north and south is even stronger. Holidays this month are best in the resorts in the center (Nha Trang Hoi An, Da Nang, Hue). The weather in the north deteriorates, and because of heavy rains and storms in Sapa and Halong is better not to go, as excursions are often canceled.
In August if you go to Vietnam for a beach holiday, only in the central areas (Nha Trang, Hoi An, Da Nang, Hue). In addition to heavy rains in the north, there are long showers in the southern resorts. Even if we are lucky and it doesn’t rain for a while, the skies in the north and south are almost always covered with heavy clouds.
Almost all resorts in Vietnam are in the rainy season, only in the north, where of the popular beach resorts only Cat Ba Island, there is excellent dry weather. But if a few short heavy rains a day, abruptly replaced by good sunny weather, do not scare you, you can safely go to Nha Trang, Da Nang or Hoi An.
This is one of the worst months for a beach vacation. In central Vietnam (Nha Trang, Hoi An, Da Nang, Hue) comes extreme bad weather, possible typhoons, and in the southern resorts the rainy season is just beginning to end. In principle, you can go to the south (Phu Quoc, Mui Ne, Vung Tau), but you should be prepared for abrupt changes in weather from sunny to rainy. The weather in the north is excellent, but there is only one beach resort – Cat Ba Island. But there is no better time to explore Hanoi, hike the mountains in Sapa and cruise around Halong Bay.
In November the weather in the north and south (Phu Quoc, Mui Ne, Vung Tau) is excellent, but in the central part (Nha Trang, Hoi An, Da Nang) is not suitable for beach holidays, there is a high probability of typhoons.
In December, especially in the second half, you can go to any resort. The rainy season ends, and its echoes still remain on the beaches of central Vietnam (Nha Trang, Hoi An, Da Nang), but in general for a beach holiday you can go there already. In the north and south, the weather is great.

Re: Visa and other questions about entering Vietnam Nodir 26 November, 2021 Hello, please advise how to take a foreign guest worker officially earned money out of Vietnam. The visa is ok. Is there a limit on the amount? What documents other than the declaration to submit. I would be grateful for advice.
Поэтому не стоит рисковать в таких случаях, и честно все задекларировать.r>Just do not forget that there may be restrictions on the importation of currency into your country .
Re: Визовые вопросы и другие вопросы въезда во Вьетнам nausla 30 Ноябрь, 2021 r>Странно, я всегда считал, что есть квоты только на вывоз. При этом декларация о ввозе только помогает вывезти.r>I had such a case in my practice with the return of the ring in the U.S. .
Re: Визовые вопросы и другие вопросы въезда во Вьетнам admin 1 Декабрь, 2021 r>Well in Vietnam such rules, and quite reasonably: so that you can justify the amount when taking it out, if there are questions. It’s the same as with expensive photo, video equipment and jewelry, which in some countries you have to declare at importation, so that you can then take it out without problems. .
Vacation, rain and fruit seasons in Vietnam
Determining the best time for a beach vacation in Vietnam! When does the rainy season end and the perfect time for a beach holiday come? When are the tropical fruits ripening? Check out our weather overview by month and choose the best time to travel.
Vietnam’s climate is influenced by the monsoon and varies greatly regionally. Such differences are due to the mountainous landscape and the long length of the country. South Vietnam has a tropical climate with relatively even average monthly temperatures, while northern and central Vietnam has a subtropical climate with cool winters and rainy hot summers. In the mountains, there may be frosts with snow in winter.
The rainy season in Vietnam
The wet season in the regions of the country comes in different months. In the south (which includes the main resorts – Phan Thiet, Mui Ne, Phu Quoc, Vung Tau) it begins in May and lasts until November. At this time is very high humidity, there are short-term tropical showers. There are overcast cool and fresh days, gusty winds. On average, the temperature is about +27 ° C. Fukuok Island has the shortest rainy season. Tourists usually avoid traveling to Vietnam during the rainy season, but some travelers believe that there is nothing wrong with tropical rains, and come to the country just at this time.
In central Vietnam, the rainy season lasts from December to April. During this time, we do not recommend visiting the resorts of Da Nang, Hue and Hoi An. We were just in winter in these cities. The rains are short, but frequent, it is quite cool (not +25 ° C, as usually described, but it feels like +10. +15 ° C). The hotels have no central heating, so the rooms are cold and you can easily get a cold. Very humid, clothes and shoes do not dry. We advise to have strong raincoats. Swimming is not possible, as the ocean storms, the beaches hang red flags. However, sometimes there are sunny days (or at least overcast, but no precipitation), when you can see the sights. The resort with the most rainfall, according to our observations, is Hue.
On a side note: during the wet season there may be typhoons (usually in the center of the country, less often in the south and north). From the second half of October to the second half of December they can hit Da Nang and Hue.
As for Nha Trang, despite the fact that it belongs to the center of the country, its climate is closer to the south. In addition, the resort is protected by a mountain range, and the probability of natural disasters is low. The heaviest rainfall occurs in November and partly in December. The holiday season in Nha Trang is from January to August, but peaks in winter and spring. How to get to Nha Trang from Ho Chi Minh City →
In the north, the wet season lasts from April to November. However, even in winter it sometimes rains: we were there in January, and, as in the case of the center of Vietnam, we would not advise to visit the region without warm clothes, suitable shoes and raincoats. It is cold in Hanoi, the temperature is +10. +20°С. The situation is better in Halong: it is almost always sunny, but quite cool in the mornings and evenings.
Beach season in the south of Vietnam falls in the winter-spring period (December – April) – this time is the best to fly on vacation. During these months a lot of visitors from Russia, China, Europe and the U.S., the weather is fine, but prices go up. In spring the weather is dry and warm along the coast. In May – June it is most comfortable to rest in the central part of Vietnam.

In November it is best to travel in the north of Vietnam: the weather there is dry and clear, with daytime temperatures about +15. +20°С. In the central regions there is still a high probability of typhoons. Nha Trang often cloudy, +26 ° C during the day, +22 ° C at night, the sea is cloudy and warm +24 ° C, in Da Nang +22. +24°С. In Phu Quoc, clear and calm water +27 ° C, clear +32 ° C during the day, +23 ° C at night.
Vietnam’s Fruit Season
Vietnam’s fruit abundance could be the envy of even Thailand. The mango and jackfruit season begins in March and lasts until summer. Avocados, rambutans and lychees appear in April, and mangosteens in early summer. Citrons and cherimoya ripen in June, tropical plums in July, and persimmons in August. The season of these fruits is not very long – only 3-4 months, and you can find them on sale until the end of the calendar autumn.
In November, the first winter fruits appear – local mandarins, in December – star apples (starapple). Durians also appear in January, but the season for these exotic fruits is much longer and lasts until October. The most delicious longan comes between May and July, but you can buy it at any time of year.
In my experience we can say that Vietnam is the most fruitful country in Southeast Asia. It seems that the fruit season in Vietnam is all year round: oranges, pineapples, pomelos, watermelons, melons, bananas, grapes, papaya, sapodilla, guava, pomelo, coconut, dragonfruit – there is no shortage of fruit here, we always found it everywhere and at low prices (except that in the North the prices are higher, and the cheapest fruit – in the South). We have a special article on exotic fruits – we described them, collected their names in Vietnamese and Thai, and listed the prices and the harvest season.
