The history of the village

Simeiz in Crimea, which is currently a popular tourist destination, was inhabited long before our era. Near the settlement archeologists discovered an ancient people’s settlement, who used to live here many thousands of years ago.

The first records about the settlement date back to the VI century B.C., at that time the land was settled by the Taurians. It was they who built the crypt at the foot of the mountain, which has 95 tombs. Also, they are attributed the construction of mysterious dolmens, built near “Cat”.

Simeiz in the Crimea. Photos, maps, and rest.

At the beginning of our era began a continuous transfer of lands from one parish to another. After the Taurians, the Byzantines lived here, it was at this time the settlement was named Sembos. After them, the lands were transferred to the Genoese, who were later replaced by the Ottomans. In ancient times on the territory of the modern settlement lived only 30 families.

In 1783 the Crimean Peninsula was annexed to the Russian Federation, and as stated in the annals, at this time the village changed its name to Simeiz.

Since ancient times, local residents grew grapes and other berries, assigning them almost the entire territory of the village. The situation changed dramatically when Nikolai and Ivan Maltsovs bought the land. At the beginning of the last century, the brothers began to sell some of the land they bought for villas and vacation homes, thereby changing the direction of the region.

At this time the new resort village was born, which later became one of the most popular recreation areas on the peninsula.

Over time, the coastal area took on an aristocratic appearance, around the mansions and villas was landscaped large park. In 1912, the royal family came to the village Simeiz on vacation and Nicholas II honored his attention hosts in the region.

The main infrastructure of the village and almost all local resorts and sanatoriums were built in the middle of the last century.
