Where to eat in Oludeniz? Review of restaurants and food prices
This is the first part of a series of reports about Oludeniz, and in it we will tell you about the food in Oludeniz and their prices, and whether the average cost of food in restaurants directly Oludeniz and restaurants in Ovacik, located 6 km from the resort towards Fethiye.
During 4 days in Oludeniz we dined in 4 different restaurants. Lunch was usually something to eat on the run, while breakfasts were included in the price of the hotels we stayed at. Breakfasts in typical Oludeniz hotels can be found in the reviews of hotels we stayed in – Ata Lagoon Beach and Leytur.
A daily budget for food in Turkey, we put in 2000 rubles, or about 100TL. To be honest, we could not always do it, usually close to this figure we had only for dinner. But, by and large, we didn’t run around looking for cheaper places (they are really hard to find!), obviously we avoided the expensive restaurants and chose, for the most part, good-quality establishments with an average, in the area, price.
By the way, I don’t know how you choose where to eat in your travels, but we usually use the tripadvisor rating, which is hardly ideal, but in most cases it works pretty well. We either pre-mark on the tripadvisor map the places with the best ratings and reasonable prices and then go there on purpose, or we use it in live mode, i.e. we check the reviews and the position in the rating directly when we walk around and look for a place to eat.
Most of the restaurants, bars and cafes in Oludeniz are located on the main street, which stretches for half a kilometer perpendicular to the waterfront, which, incidentally, is also where to eat. The cuisine in the local establishments of catering is mostly European and Turkish, we haven’t seen Japanese at all but we have seen a whole Chinese restaurant and a rest with the Indian-Thai cuisine. But, as mainly European public comes to the resort, the cuisine is a priority here.
1. The first place where we had a meal in Oludeniz was Antique Restaurant & Bar (#5 of 102 restaurants in Oludeniz according to tripadvisor), an institution of international and Turkish cuisine. This was just the case when we were walking around looking for a decent place and, along the way, checking the reviews on tripadvisor. We went through a lot of options, but eventually settled on this one. By the way, the map on Tripadvisor lies about the location of the restaurant, in fact it is located on the main street, not far from the waterfront.
2. 2. We sat down and ordered. So that we were not bored, we were offered our standard Turkish snack with butter sauce and greens.
3. The two drinks – Beach Bom and Most Awesome Break cost 14TL each. To roughly translate into rubles, multiply by 20. The drinks were tasty, essentially something like a smoothie.
4. Looking around while waiting for the food.
6. And here, literally, the hot meal came.
7. this is Kiremitte Firin Kofte (Meatbals in Clay Pot) – Turkish cutlets (koftas) in a clay pot with tomato-garlic sauce and roasted vegetables. As you can see from the previous picture, the default side dish is rice. The price is 28.5TL. The koftas in general are hard to spoil, wherever we ate them during the trip, they were quite tasty everywhere, and this case is no exception.
8. The second dish we ordered was a little more experimental, but it also belonged to the traditional Turkish cuisine. Balli Mahmudiye (original recipe from ottoman palace kitchen) – marinated and stewed chicken covered with raisins, nuts, fresh fruits and honey sauce, with a side dish of baked potatoes and traditional rice. The price is 28.5 TL. Also a pretty good dish that, just a little bit more, would have been more like dessert
9. All in all, Antique turned out okay. Of the places where we ate in Oludeniz, you could even say the best. Antique Restaurant & Bar rating is a confident 7/10. The amount of the check – 86TL or ~1800Ñ€. The photos of the menu didn’t quite work out, so we won’t paste them here, but if anyone is interested, here, here and here. By the way, wi-fi is available, only they remembered the password from the fourth attempt. We can also mention pretty good service, which we didn’t encounter so often in Turkey.
10. On the second day we had dinner near Antique, there, in the waterfront area, in an Italian pizzeria restaurant Toscana (#17 out of 102 restaurants in Oludeniz).
11. On this trip, we had a rule that if you need to save money on dinner – order a pizza. It’s perfectly enough, at least for us, to satiate the two of us, and it will cost you half as much than if you order a dish each. So we ordered Oriental mixture pizza for 19.5TL=~400 rubles and had a really good meal with it.
12.As for drinks, we had a large Sprite – 8TL.
13. And a latte – 7TL. Total for the check – 34,5TL =~700 rubles. Budget enough. Rated 6.0/10 for Toscana. A normal medium place.
14. The next day we had a chance to have lunch at Mimoza restaurant (#21 of 102 eating places in Oludeniz), also on the main street of Oludeniz. After the paragliding flights, we were really hungry, and on the way to the beach we had a snack at this place.
15. We ordered a pancake with ice cream and fruit for 12TL.
16. And a sandwich with bacon and fries for 14TL. Had a large Coke for two for 7,5TL.
17. All in all, a normal snack. The check came out – 33.5TL =.~700 rubles. The Mimosa has a nice interior.
18. Menu. Consider in detail at the link.
19. And there are bunnies here as well! Our rating for Mimoza is 6.5/10. Half point added for the bunnies ^_^
The fourth and fifth day in Oludeniz we spent in the area of Ovacik on the mountain, where we stayed at Leytur Hotel. Tripadvisor says there are at least 49 places to eat, most of which are concentrated in the southern part of the area. We lived 2.5-3 kilometers to the north, where all the restaurants and cafes are spread thin along the main road (leading to Oludeniz) and the backyards. Therefore, so easily to walk there to choose, it is somewhat problematic. To the nearest restaurant from hotel we had to walk 10-15 minutes. To the next 2-3 minutes and so on.
20. The first restaurant we visited in Owachika was Sandinos Restaurant & Bar (#4 of 49 restaurants in Owachika), which was about 1 kilometer from the hotel. The place specializes in both Turkish and Indian as well as Thai cuisine, not forgetting international cuisine.
21. We ordered Thai and Turkish sets for 34TL and 36TL respectively. Of the drinks – water for 4.5TL. Told the waitress “big wot”, it seemed to her that we asked for a large vodka, she was somewhat surprised To warm up they brought Papadam with pickle tray – thin crispy Indian flatbread with 3 kinds of sauces. Tastes like – well, it’ll do.
22. An appetizer from the Turkish set – cheese rolls – cheese rolls with sauce of unclear consistency and dubious taste.
23. An appetizer from the Thai set – something like crab cakes with sweet and sour sauce. Not bad, but not much
24. The main course of the Thai set was brought in a thing like this, on the fire so it wouldn’t get cold.
25. Inside was chicken curry and rice. Overall, this dish made no impression whatsoever – an ordinary, almost tasteless curry with bits of chicken and boring rice.
26. In the Turkish set the main dish was Grilled meatballs (chef’s mum made) – traditional Turkish meatballs cooked by chef’s mom and served with french fries, rice, lettuce and tomato. As we mentioned before it’s not a trivial task to spoil it, so this dish can be given a credit to the restaurant.
27. Interiorly the restaurant, to put it mildly, is not particularly outstanding.
28. 28. The most annoying thing was the proximity to the road. In fact, this is the bane of most restaurants in this part of Ovachik. Traffic is not heavy, but still the noise is regularly distracting. In addition, the restaurant hall is not deep, so there is nowhere to hide.
29. Here’s the menu. If you want to get a closer look, go here.
In the end, we did not like Sandinos Restaurant & Bar. First of all the cuisine, and slightly the location. May be we were not lucky with the choice, but in general it is their main items on the menu, so hardly. The check we paid – 74.5 =.~1500Ñ€. Rated 5/10 by Sandinos.
30. Our last meal in Ovacik/Oludeniz was at Teras Restaurant & Bar (#9 of 49 places in Ovacik). Another roadside restaurant.
31. Besides, there was another annoying factor here – the ubiquitous fans, which streams of air just blew everything around. By some miracle we found a more or less blind area in the back of the hall, away from the noise of the road.
32. We had a very modest dinner. The pizza was our everything We were given some kind of sausage and vegetables. It tasted okay Cost 18,5 TL. Not to choke, we got a latte for 7TL and a big Fanta for 5.5TL. Total for the check – 31TL =.~630 rubles.
33. The restaurant is, however, a little cozier than its previous counterpart. We don’t have pictures of the interior, but you can take our word for it. There are even such unnecessary elements of decor as an old motorcycle at the entrance. Overall rating – 5.5/10.
34. Teras restaurant menu.
Let’s sum up a little. In general, in our opinion, the most decent catering establishments are still located in the center of Oludeniz. Which is logical, because most of the tourists spend most of their time there. True, this is exactly why the center of the village is much livelier and noisier. Sit in silence, to reflect on the eternal here will not work. In Ovachik against this background is somewhat calmer, despite the fact that most restaurants are located along the roadway. There are not many people and it is not a problem to find a free seat. If you compare prices on the menu, it turns out that it is even cheaper in Ovachik. You can analyze the above menus yourself. On average, for individual dishes, the price differs by 3-10 Turkish liras, in favor of Ovacik, which can be noticeable if you dine, for example, the family. If you cook your own food, we can notice that in the stores of Ovacik, too, the prices are lower than in the center of the resort. Where to eat is ultimately up to you. If you want to be in the middle of the party and have a better choice in terms of the number of establishments per square meter, as well as the quality of cuisine – the choice is Oludeniz. If you want a quieter atmosphere or prefer to save money on food, Ovacik is waiting for you. But in our opinion, if you live below, it is senseless to go to Ovacik to eat there. It is better to spend some time and find an easier place in Oludeniz, than to spend 10-15 minutes and several lira each way for a drive. But to drive from Ovacik to Oludeniz to eat is not a senseless idea, because, as we wrote, the choice, the party, etc.
We hope that this article was useful and you were able to decide for yourself where to eat in Oludeniz. At least, thanks to it you will be able to assess the order of prices in establishments Oludeniz, and be able to calculate your personal daily budget for food.
